Dr. Stephen Dougherty was diagnosed with a speech impediment as a child. When considering medical career paths as an undergraduate, he knew he wanted a career in which he could have a unique connection to those he served, so he naturally chose speech-language pathology. Some of his required undergraduate degree courses were in audiology, however, and the seed was planted. He eventually realized audiology was where he belonged.
Dr. Dougherty earned his bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from the University of Mississippi and his Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Memphis. During his tenure at Memphis, he completed clinical work at several sites including:
- Baptist Memorial Hospital (Memphis, TN)
- Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital (Memphis, TN)
- Memphis Oral School for the Deaf (Germantown, TN)
- Memphis Speech & Hearing Center (Memphis, TN)
- Mid-South ENT (Germantown, TN)
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN)
He completed his fourth-year clinical externship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
He enjoys forming connections with patients and their families, and he continually strives to enhance his knowledge and performance to provide each patient with the superior level of care they deserve. He particularly appreciates the commitment to the community shared by everyone at Audiology Associates of Southern Oregon.
In his free time, Stephen enjoys exploring the outdoors with his girlfriend and their three dogs. When not outdoors, you can find him catching up on all the latest movies or watching sports.
